Three minutes
- 1Windows or Linux: open the hiddify or 2dust/v2rayN releases page on GitHub and take the newest package. Mac: install V2Box from the App Store, or Hiddify from GitHub.

Proxy mode or the full tunnel
Proxy mode is polite. It sets the system proxy, and browsers and ordinary programs follow it. No administrator password is needed, which suits a shared PC. The full tunnel, called TUN mode, is not polite. It captures everything, including game launchers, editors and command line tools. It wants administrator approval once. When in doubt, choose TUN.
