Do it now

Open a new tab and search what is my IP. The number at the top is the address your operator has lent you for this session. Every site you visit tonight receives it. Along with it, a lookup page shows the operator's name and a city. That is the entire check. If all you wanted was to show my IP to a support agent, you are done.

The rest of this page is about what those three facts mean in India, where two of them are often strange.

Strange thing one: the long address

On Jio you will probably see a long string with colons. That is IPv6, and Jio uses it by default.
A search for what is my IP address IPv4 may then return nothing, or an address that belongs to Jio's translation gateway.
Airtel, Vi and most broadband lines still show the familiar four numbers, and sometimes both kinds.
Both kinds work in the same way. Neither one holds your name.
A VPN needs to carry both. Otherwise one of them leaks past the tunnel.

Strange thing two: the wrong city

Lookup pages draw a pin on a map. In India the pin is usually on a hub: Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad or Kolkata. Operators gather a whole region's traffic at those points, and the databases record the hub and not you. So my IP location, my IP address and location, and what is my IP address location all give the same rough answer. Even whats my IP location address, with its odd grammar, leads to the same map. On mobile data you may also share that address with hundreds of other people.

Who can turn the number into a name

Your operator, and nobody else. It knows which SIM held which address at which minute, and it releases that under legal process. A website cannot do it. A stranger in a game cannot do it. Banners that flash your address at you are selling something. What is my IP public address information is public by design. That is how the internet delivers replies.

Watch it change

1Note what the lookup shows now. Any my IP address find page works.
2Start @notchless_bot in Telegram and take the five day key.
3Paste it into a client and connect to Dubai.
4Reload the lookup. It should show a hosting company, the UAE and a new number.
5Disconnect. Your operator's address returns.

Keep in mind

✓Toggling airplane mode usually gives you a fresh mobile address.
✓The address in your Wi-Fi settings is a private one. It never leaves the house.
✓If you log in somewhere, the site knows you, whatever the address says.
✓If you only need to know my IP address for a form, the search result is enough. Install nothing.
✓Notchless keeps no record of the address you come from.

When the night ends, nothing stays behind

No account, so nothing for a log to point at, and no email, number or name on file. Our cities sit outside India, which keeps us outside the CERT-In retention rules. We would rather name that reason than pretend no law reaches us.

  • Lights off, nothing kept
  • No email, phone number or account
  • No history of what you watched or opened
  • Cities outside India, so its retention rules do not apply
  • UPI or crypto, no stored card details

Questions from the queue

What is my IP in plain words?

The return address on your internet traffic. Your operator lends it to your connection.

Why is mine so long on Jio?

It is an IPv6 address. Jio's network is built on IPv6.

Can someone locate my house with it?

No. It points to your operator and to a hub city.

Why was I blocked for something I did not do?

Mobile users share addresses. Someone else on the same address misbehaved. Toggle airplane mode to get a new one.

Does the key change both IPv4 and IPv6?

Yes. The clients carry both, so nothing leaks around the tunnel.

Is hiding it legal?

Yes. Using a VPN is legal in India.

Up late with a question?

Ask in the Telegram bot, nights included; the same chat holds your key. The setup steps name the client to install.
